Panasonic recently announced that production will soon start on the PT-DZ21K series of projectors, which will be compact 20,000-lumen, 3-chip DLP projectors for applications that may require a lot of brightness.

“Our customers told us there is a market need for powerful, bright, reliable - yet more compact - large-venue projectors that will also help alleviate excess costs associated with shipping and transport,” said Scott Wellington, product marketing manager for Projectors at Panasonic Solutions for Business. “The introduction of the PT-DZ21K Series 3-Chip DLP projectors, that is nearly 50 percent smaller than the current industry offerings, is Panasonic’s direct response to helping end-users realize increased ROI."

Wellington said users won't have to sacrifice product performance and visual experience for size, as these productions should be able to work everywhere, including museums, auditoriums to
large-scale stages. Peter Huljich, Panasonic's group manager, said the company is confident this device has huge potential and it is its widest-ever product offering.

The first in the series of these projectors from Panasonic will be available in May, with two more available in June, the company said.

In what could be an interesting development in the technology world, Reuters is reporting that Sony Corporation is in talk with AU Optronics Corporation to produce a next-generation OLED television. The original report, from Japanese news source the Yomiuri Shimbun, said this would be the first post-liquid crystal LCD TV on the market.

"We know that Sony will have to form some kind of alliance with a third party since it would be difficult for it to capture more share in the OLED TV area alone," Nobuo Kurahashi, an analyst at Mizuho Investors Securities, said to the news source. "It's not a surprise if it is considering a tie-up (with AU)."

Reuters said LG and Samsung both displayed 55-inch OLED prototypes earlier in the year at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sony, a company helped
pioneer this technology, still makes high-end OLED screens, which cost upwards of $26,000 for business customers.

A previous report by Reuters said Sony was the first to market a $2,000 OLED home screen in 2007, but production was halted a few years later in the midst of a poor economy. With parts of the economy looking better, now may be a good time to try again.

The website's review of the Panasonic DMP-BDT220 said the device has built-in Wi-Fi, 3-D compatibility and the Viera Connect suite of streaming-media, including Hulu Plus, Netflix and more.

"If I had to recommend just one Blu-ray player for 2012, it would be Panasonic's DMP-BDT220," the website said. "And while competing players from Samsung and Sony offer just as many streaming apps, they're hamstrung by awkward user interfaces."

CNET gave the device a four out of five stars, or excellent, with an overall rating of 8.0 out of 10 ratings in design, features and performance. The website said the user interface for the device is
straightforward and has some other perks, such as a front-panel SD card slot, a quick-start mode and Skype compatibility.

Panasonic said users can download remote control apps on their smartphones to help control the DMP-BDT220, making this device very technologically savvy in many ways.

Sony will start PlayMemories Online in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Germany and France, a service that will have 5GB of free storage.

PlayMemories Online will let users upload photos and videos taken from Sony cameras using the service's software. Users can share the photos online and view them on Sony Bravia TVs or photo frames. Cameras that feature built-in Wi-Fi can will be able to upload the photographs directly from the device.

"The service is part of a major effort by Sony to link its various products through online platforms, much the way rival Apple
ISO performance and 6fps. Canon also implemented 1080p video recording for this camera.

Canon said the EOS 5D Mark III is built to perform and provides exceptional clarity and sharpness.

In its first look at the Nikon D3200 DSLR, The Washington Post said it's a pretty compelling option for people looking to jump into being a photo enthusiast. The camera has a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor, 4 fps continuous shooting, Wi-Fi support and more video functionality than the previous version.

"The new sensor is a big deal - it makes the D3200 Nikon's highest-resolution DSLR after the 36-megapixel D800, but still improves on the D3100 with a native ISO range of up to 6400," the news source said. "Despite the increase in file size, Nikon has also managed to up the shooting speed, with the D3200 able to capture up to 4 continuous frames a second. All these photos will look sharper on the back of your camera as well as your computer thanks to the 921k-dot screen."

As far as the improved video function is
concerned, this camera will now be able to shoot in 1080p at 30 frames per second or 720p at 60 frames in a second. This is Nikon's cheapest option to have an external pic as well, according to the Washington Post.

MSNBC said the Nikon D3200 DSLR's Wi-Fi feature allows people to send photos to Android devices, with support for Apple devices coming later in the year. The LCD screen is even improved, with four times the amount of pixels as Nikon's previous offering.

"It features the killer combination of outstandingly deep black levels, excellent screen uniformity, freedom from meaningful viewing angle limitations, natural color, crisp, blur-free motion, and ultra-fast video gaming responsiveness," the website said in its review of the TV. "It also has a brilliant design that almost matches the thinness of poorer-performing LED-based LCD TVs, and a great lineup of internet connectivity and multimedia features."

AVForums also reviewed the new Panasonic offering, saying it features dynamic range, superb calibration controls, high-calibre 3-D performance and "unbelievably fluid motion" for Blu-ray players. There are some cons, the website said, including some touch pad troubles, issues with the 50Hz material and difficulty with the internet when it is plugged in.

Even so, AVForums said the Panasonic TX-P50VT50B is the best TV to combine dynamic range with color reproduction and general excellence in video processing. Those looking for a new 3-D TV may want to take a look at this one by Panasonic.

A recent report by ABI shows that when people go to buy a new HDTV in the first part of 2012, they will likely look to a Samsung. This could be important, as 25 percent of people said they plan on buying a new HDTV in the first half of 2012.

Twenty percent of people will look to buy a Samsung, followed by 19 percent looking at a Sony-brand HDTV. This is notable due to Sony previously having a 27 percent market share when it came to HDTV purchases. Other companies on the top of the list include LG at 12 percent and Vizio at 11 percent.

“Regardless how long-lasting this shift in consumer interest may be, Sony continues to face a difficult challenge with its TV business, as do many TV manufacturers,” says senior analyst Michael Inouye. "Consumers continue to place screen size, display technology and, above all, price, as the most vital features for future TV purchases – all of which conspire to make differentiation in the TV market increasingly difficult.”

Inouye said Samsung may have found the right balance between price, features and form as the company seems to be outpacing others in a battle for selling HDTVs.

While it was only released mere weeks ago, the Sony Mobile Xperia S has broken into the top 10 chart of devices and may move into the top five, according to Mobile Magazine. The news source said it appears as though the company is looking to increase shipments to meet the demand for the device.

"League table figures show the Xperia S, the first Sony-branded phone since the demise of the Sony Ericsson joint venture earlier this year, has been selling strongly with sales of just under 10,000 for the week ending March 23, placing it at No. 7 in the chart," Mobile Magazine said, adding that the device accounted for 3 percent of total mobile sales.

Silicon Republic said a dual core processor, sharp screen and top-quality sound make the Xperia S great for movie watching and listening to music. The website said it also includes a camera that is impressive regarding both taking pictures and capturing videos.

The review said the Sony Xperia S is "definitely worth considering" for those who want a smartphone with a camera that can take top-notch photos. Sony said there will soon be an update to the device's Android 2.3 operating system, according to Silicon Republic.

"It's portable (with a rechargeable battery for up to six hours of use) has a power cord for standard wall charging, a 30-pin Apple dock, an audio-in port for non-Apple products, an antenna to help tune in FM radio and a wireless remote to control it all," Gregg Ellman said in the review. "Oh, and I forgot to add that it's equipped with the latest Bluetooth technology so you can pair it with another device and have them separated but still control it from anywhere in the same room."

For those who like playing these devices wirelessly, there's an extendable antenna on the back that will help the wireless play of the device. Ellman said on the Herald's website that the antenna worked well enough to get "perfect sound" from every station in the area.
