3DTV technology gets boost from cable providers

Posted on January 20, 2012 by admin There have been 0 comments

3D televisions have been around for more than a few years now, and the features they offer can turn a normal viewing experience into a totally immersive world. In the past, such features were limited to 3D DVDs and Blu-rays that could only be watched on a special player. However, several cable companies have recently announced private 3D cable services that can be ordered on a 3D-capable television.

WealthTV 3D, for example, is a company that offers private service to millions of customers, airing sports programs and other shows in full 3D. Recently, they announced the launch of a new channel on Roku, a device used to stream live video to a television or compatible device. The service will initially be free to Roku subscribers.

Most major cable providers already offer 3DTV channels on their networks, but these are quickly being merged with larger organizations to provide streamlined viewing. A 10-year deal was recently brokered between Disney and Comcast that allows Xfinity users to access formerly exclusive Disney content - including channels like Xfinity 3D and ESPN 3D.

The concept is the same as the Roku deal - 3DTV technology will soon be available on every major network at the touch of a button, providing the driving force behind the market.
